The phrase I can't stand to hear...

At least you don't have to be pregnant in the summer! Well I have news for you summer has arrived in Atlanta. In fact the high for tomorrow (June 1st) is 97 degrees! So if you ask me I sure am enduring some brutal heat. Due to heat I have been pretty exhausted when I get home each day and my poor feet are so swollen that they look like pig feet to me! I Sure can't wait for all the swelling to go down!
I also thought I would let you know that I have started experiencing what they call Braxton Hicks contractions. These are the contractions that help my body get ready for labor so the good news is Baby Girl will hopefully make her appearance soon. I will officially be considered full term on Friday of this week and at that point I am homebound! I am trying to get all the laundry done and the nursery set up in the next week so that when baby Girl arrives there will be no worries. I have been told that shortly before a new mom goes into labor she will feel a burst of energy to get things in order...well I guess you could say, I have not exactly had that burst of energy yet!
I go to the doc again this week and hope to find out my Strep results and will also find out if I am showing any signs of early labor so until then I hope everyone stays cool in this brutal heat!

Baby Moon time

So last week I had to travel one last time for work to Nashville. For those of you who were worried about me traveling so close to my due date, no worries my doctor did clear me! Speaking of my doctor's appointment, all was well. Little girl was actually a bit higher in my belly and I asked the doc what that meant, he unfortunately said if he could predict what is going on in there he would be a billionaire! I guess you could say I was hoping he would tell me she was coming early! I also was tested for the Strep B virus which apparently is not a big deal to me but could be to the baby. If I test positively then both Baby and I will be treated with an antibiotic at delivery. The doctor told me not to worry though as they had no reason to believe I would have any complications!
So back to my work trip...recently the corporate office for the hospital system moved to Franklin, TN which is just outside of Nashville. We had our annual meeting where our hospital was awarded the Hospital of the Year! So when the meeting got planned, Tim and I decided that if all was going smoothly in my pregnancy we would take a long weekend and vacation in Nashville. We learned that this is officially called a Baby Moon!
Nashville is a great town! Besides the ridiculous heat we truly enjoyed ourselves. It was so great to be able to randomly walk in to the Honky Tonk Bars and hear some great music. There truly is so much talent out there and no wonder it is so hard to break into the industry. I can also tell you that Baby Girl certainly likes country music as she was moving tons! Not only did we enjoy the great Honky Tonk bars, we also got to see a show at the Grand Ole Opry. Again, this was awesome and we had a great time! I can't wait to take Baby Girl back there one day.
Here are a few pics of our trip to Nashville

35 weeks and 33 years old!

I turned 33 on May 20th and as I joked with my dad, I was now half his age (he turned 66 on May 18th). But the question remains am I still in my early 30's? I think so! 35 weeks was an exciting week. My hospital surprised me with a baby shower, I think I mentioned last time how great my hospital is and once again they proved to be awesome. Tim and I really racked up on the remainder of the much needed items to welcome Baby Girl home! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the shower as they really fooled me but one of my coworkers promises to send some my way.
For my birthday weekend Tim and I ran lots of errands and I got to do a little shopping for the baby. I have been telling everyone what I really wanted for my birthday was to be able to go shopping for some new clothes once this baby belly is gone and thanks to my awesome husband I will be able to do so. It seems like all my money lately has gone to my little girl so this gift will be used for me! Tim and I also plan to celebrate both our birthdays at the Josh Groban concert in June.
Here's a belly pic for 35 weeks that was taken on my birthday! Definitely getting bigger!

34 weeks...my oh my how time flies!

Well it is hard to believe that I hit 34 weeks last Friday, May 13th. I had another good doctor's appointment. Although apparently I have lost 3lbs over the last month. The doctor was a bit concerned about my weight loss but I assured her I was still eating, I guess you could say I have not been able to eat nearly as much as it feels like this little girl is taking up all available room in my abdomen. Once the doctor felt my stomach she felt better and confirmed just how much space my little girl is occupying!
I also finally got over my cold that I had been fighting but am now afraid that I am fighting some allergies too! Oh well, the joys of pregnancy and not being able to really take anything! But again no complaints from me as long as Baby Girl is healthy!
Last week was National Hospital Week and we had many activities planned at my hospital, one of which was a "Dress the Decade" contest. So naturally being as large as I am I had to figure out what I could dress as that would shock my staff. I chose the 80's and I think I did a pretty good job! In fact when I came downstairs in the morning. Tim said "I have never been more proud of my wife" (note much sarcasm in his voice!!!) Anyways here is a picture of me all dressed up (and yes that is my real hair, just lots of hairspray!)

Baby Girl will be very proud!

My Colleagues!

It was a great week and I am already preparing my costume for next year...just think in a few years I will be embarassing Baby Girl!
In addition to all the fun we had at Hospital Week, Tim and I also attended an all day birthing class at the hospital where I am scheduled to deliver. Lots have asked what I thought of the class and quite frankly I am pretty scared about the whole delivery process. I know millions of women have done this before me but I still am a bit petrified. Thank Goodness I have a super Husband who is so supportive and loving and with him I know we will get through this. In case any of you are wondering if all goes planned we will be delivering at Emory University Hospital Midtown Location!
Well I think that was all the exciting news for week 34!  I will update you all at the end of this week as I will be 35 weeks on May 20th!

Mother's Day weekend

Well Tim and I headed to Savannah for Mother's Day weekend which will more than likely be my last trip before Baby Girl arrives. So Tim cut the yard while I wondered around the city. I feel really bad not being able to help but I truly do not have the energy right now. Plus I'm fighting a terrible cold and what I can definitely say is 33 weeks pregnant plus a summer head cold do not mix!
This week has been a pretty monumental week as some pretty big things have happened in history. Osama Bin Laden was finally killed earlier this week. A little history for my little girl when she reads this one day...
10 years ago on September 11, 2001 I was sitting in my classroom when one of my students said Miss Tubb an airplane just crashed into a big building. I immediately looked at the television and was in shock. You see I taught special education back then and I had my students watching the news in the morning so they could learn about current events. Many of my students didn't have access to televisions so this was a very important time of our day but unfortunately I was not prepared for this day in history. You could say I was glued to the TV the whole day and obviously a bit worried about what was happening in our country. I remember being so scared when I couldn't reach any of my family or who would become her future daddy. Well anyways after several more hours of terroristic attacks the United States was officially under attack. I knew several friends who immediately enlisted in the military and coming from a military family I was very proud. Well 10 years later the man who took so many American lives was killed by our Navy Seals who were based out of Fort Campbell, KY (something interesting about Ft Campbell is that my dad was stationed there during Vietnam). So in American history May 1, 2011 will be a pretty big day that my little girl will read about one day
Back to Mother's Day, Tim came home on Thursday with a gift for me which I will greatly enjoy. He really is going to be a great daddy and I cannot wait for him to hold her for the first time. I know I get to feel her everyday but it must be difficult for future daddy's to not be able to get that sme experience!
Well that is ll for now. Not too much longer to go and we are certainly ready for her arrival!
Here are a few pictures from Mother's Day and one of Tim and I right befor my first Mother's Day!

32 weeks and baby shower

Well a lot has been going on since my last blog entry so I plan to do several entries over the weekend to try and get caught up.
Last weekend, April 30th, I had my first baby shower. It was a wonderful party given to me by three of my dearest friends! For the occasion I had my family in town minus my big brother who is safely in Japan. One could say it was a little stressful in the beginning as my family in Alabama had just gone through the worst tornado outbreak in US history, but thankfully they were all safe and their house was fine. My parents were also in town so we definitely had a houseful ( 7 people and 5 dogs!)
We certainly got lots done while they were here and when they all left it was a bit quiet in the Harcourt House!
Here are a few pics from the shower and a few pics of the nursey which is coming along!
